WHO IS THE DOMINION OF EVERYTHING?

bismillah2 copy

And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and to Allah is the return.

(Surah Nur: 42)

Allah tells us that whosoever is in the heavens and on the earth, i.e., the angels, mankind, Jinn, animals and even lifeless objects like stones, mountains, all belongs Him. He is the Ruler, the Controller of all, the Lord Who is worshipped and besides Whom none other is to be worshipped, and there is none to put back His judgement.

What is Al-Mulk and Who is Al-Malik?

The word “مُلك ” is a nominative noun, which generally marks the subject of a verb, the word is translated as dominion, and the proper noun before this word is اللہ. So Allah is the owner of everything. One of the attribute of Allah subhanawa’talah is Al-Malik which means “being Powerful” and having something in one’s sole possession. Malik, Maalik, Mulk and Maleek all come from the root maa-laa-kaa, which points to three main meanings. The first main meaning is to have possession and ownership. The second is to have power and ability and the third main meaning is to control and have authority. Allah, the Almighty and the Majestic said in Quran,

And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is over all things competent

(Surah Al-e-Imran: 189)

The Quran states in many Surah’s that Allah is the only sovereign of universe and whatever lies in it, is in His possession. Whole kingdom entirely belongs to Him, He doesn’t share His rule with anyone and doesn’t require anyone to have any associate in it. It shows the Power of the Almighty, anything lies in it, is His creation. He who gives life and death. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah subhana’watalah said:

To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth

(Surah Al-Baqarah: 255)

So, it’s simple to understand that if He is the Master and the Creator, then why anyone need to go to others to fulfill his needs. It also defines one’s belief, because this has the lesson of Tawheed in it. Also, we need to stay within the set limits of Al-Malik to gain the eternal benefits.

What is in the Skies and Earth?

The word “sama” which means “sky” is mentioned hundreds of times in the Quran in its singular and plural forms; In ayaat, the number of the skies is mentioned as “seven”; in two of those verses it s stated that the seven skies are in the form of “layers”. It is stated as in Quran:

[And] who created seven heavens in layers.

(Surah Mulk: 3)

The Creation outside the Heavens and outside the Earth, mentioned several times, is a priori difficult to imagine.

It is Allah who has created seven heavens and of the earth, the like of them. [His] command descends among them so you may know that Allah is over all things competent and that Allah has encompassed all things in knowledge.

(Surah At-Talaq: 12)

Another Observation which may surprise the reader of the Quran is the fact that ayaat refers to three groups of things created, such that:
  • things in the Heavens
  • things on the Earth
  • things between the Earth and Heaven

Who am I and Whom I belong?

A question arise in the mind of reader, if i don’t own anything and in reality nothing belongs to me, then who am i? and why i am created? To whom i belong? The answer is given in the second part of this ayah:

and to Allah is the return.

The word المصیر means “return” or “destination”, it is also a nominative noun and its root word is Suad, Ya, Ra. This part of ayat means, to Him everything will ultimately return, and He is swift in bringing to account. In Surah Maryam, it is said:

There is no one in the heavens and earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant.

(Surah Al-Maryam: 93)

Every single person will return and present to Him, as a slave. Some will be pleased to be presented before Allah as His slaves, because that is how they spent their lives. But others did not want to be slaves in this world, but they will be on the Day of Judgment. He will reward or punish everyone according to his deeds: if they are good, then the end will be good, and if they are bad, then the end will be bad. That shows duty of creation is to follow the rules of Master to gain success. But how? Allah subhana’watalah told us in Surah Al-Baqarah ayah 21:

O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous

Hence 2 points are cleared from this above ayah, that everything is created for His worship so do humans, because He created us, it is His right on us that we obediently follow our Master. Also, we are His servants, because a servant need to work in the set boundaries. And our Lord want us to be obedient and live our lives in full compliance of Quran and Sunnah of Prophet ﷺ.We have given freewill to choose right or wrong, but a submissive slave is the one who never transgressed limits, as he aims to attain the pleasure of his Master.

CHAPTER 4: 1ST PRINCIPLE – WHO IS YOUR LORD? (PART 1)

bismillah2 copy

A person’s first stage of reckoning will be in the grave where he will be asked three questions. Allah will help reinforce the person’s answers based on his deeds in this world. Let’s begin with the details of first question, taught in this book by Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab Rahimullah.

Sheikh Rahimullah’s saying “So if it said to you” meaning if you are asked about your Lord, this is a question which will occur, you will indeed ask in this life and Hereafter, so it is essential that you have knowledge of your Lord, the Majestic and you respond with the correct response and clear proof. So then say “My Lord is Allah” this is the answer, “the one who nurtured me and nurture the whole of the creation with His favour”. This is using an intellectual proof.

Ar-Rabthe Lord, the Majestic and Most High, is one who nurtures all of His servants with His favors and blessings. He creates them from nothing, in the wombs of their mother, in form of creation after another, within three depths of darkness. And He nourishes them with the provision in dark wombs. Then soul breath into the fetus so it moves and comes out to life, by the permission of Allah subhana’watalah. This process is nurturing in the womb and when it comes out, Allah the Perfect nurtures it with His favors like health and well-being, and He causes the milk of his mother to flow for it. So it nourishes until it can eat food and can survive without milk. Then, its intellect grows little by little, and its hearing and seeing improve, until it reaches puberty then it develops further until it reaches its full strength. He supports the creation the entire life with all their needs. Ar-Rabb also means that He blessed us with our physical bodies, our qualities, our desires, our thinking, our mind etc.

The entire universe is drowned in the blessings of Allah, from the top of their heads to the bottom of their feet. When we say the entire Aalam (universe), it is everything other than Allah.

The ‘Aalam of the Jinn, the ‘Aalam of the Ins (humans), the ‘Aalam of the devils, the ‘Aalam of the oceans, the ‘Aalam of the birds, the ‘Aalam of the animals and others that we may know about and some that we do not know about. Aalam uniquely was a word called that because they are a sign. It comes from the word sign, like a flag.

A sign of the creation Allah on this earth. Just like your laptops are a sign that someone manufactured them, we are a sign (we are like a flag) that we are the creation of Allah, and proof that Allah is our Lord who exists. No one else has ability except Him, over granting provision, neither the idols nor anything else, rather it is one who is provided for, , it is being created like yourself.

Allah is the Only Lord to Worship:

It is testimony of faith, to accept that there is none worthy of worship except Allah. Rahimullah’s saying “He is the one whom i worship“: the Lord, the One who deserves worship from me and from other than me. Then Sheikh also draws attention to the fact that it is not enough to affirm Ruboobiyyah (Allah’s Lordship), it is not sufficient that you say, “My Lord is Allah who nurtured me with His favors” but you need to acknowledge His rights to all worship, and you must make all worship purely and sincerely for Him. And this is the difference between the person of tawheed and person of shirk.

The person of shirk says” My Lord is Allah” but associates partners along with Him. He doesn’t solely worship Allah, but also include trees, rocks and beloved servants of Allah, righteous people and graves. So the affirmation of Lordship alone will not benefit him, and will not enter him in islam.

So his saying “And He is the One whom I worship” means the Diety whom I worship and his saying ” And there is no other whom I worship besides Him” neither from the Angels nor from the Messengers, or anyone else, I have nothing which i worship besides Him. He is the Perfect, the Most High. This is affirmation of Tawheed with the intellectual proof.

1ST CHAPTER OF BOOK:

First Principle ( Proof) – Part 2

FROM NICHE TO RIBCAGE – AYAH OF RADIANCE

bismillah2 copy

Ayat ul Nur is in the middle of all the social laws in the surah because unless the eeman is there , these laws do not mean anything. People will not value them. Let’s break down the ayah for clear understanding:

1- Allahu nooru alssamawati waal-ardi

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.

It means by His Light the heavens and earth are illuminated. In the Two Sahihs, it is recorded that Ibn `Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “When the Messenger of Allah got up to pray at night, he would say:

“O Allah, to You be praise, You are the Sustainer of heaven and earth and whoever is in them. To You be praise, You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them”.

This means that Allah is the means by which the heavens and the earth can be seen for what they really are. Light is the means by which you can see. Without Allah, you will still see the skies and the earth but not what they actually are.
Without light, you can’t see things for what they truly are. That is the bottom line of this ayah. When you have the faith of Allah in your heart, then you can understand the universe and the things around you for what it really is.

Slide1

2. Mathalu Noorihi Kamishkatin feeha Misbahun:

The parable (example) of His Light is as a niche

There are two views concerning the meaning of the pronoun (His). The first is that it refers to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, meaning that the parable of His guidance in the heart of the believer is as a niche. This was the view of Ibn `Abbas.

The second view is that the pronoun refers to the believer, which is indicated by the context of the words and implies that the parable of the light in the heart of the believer is as a niche. So the heart of the believer and what he is naturally inclined to of guidance and what he learns of the Qur’an which is in accordance with his natural inclinations.

and within it a lamp.

The example is made a distant close hence the it is described as something like a niche because the light of Allah can not be fathomed, Allah gives us an distant example to help us understand something of it. This is just to give us an idea, what humans can handle.
Now let us talk about this niche,In old homes, they used to have an Indent on the wall shaped like an arch, this was the place where they would put a lamp. It was shaped like that so that the light would hit it and reflect to the entire room
Misbah comes from subr which means morning. It literally means a tool to make it seem like morning. Ubayy bin Ka`b said, “The lamp is the light, and this refers to the Qur’an and the faith that is in his heart.”

3. ٓAlmisbahu fee Zujajatin alzzujajatu kaannaha Kawkabun durriyyun:

the lamp is in a glass, the glass as if it were a pearly (white) star

It means light is shining in a clear glass. Ubayy bin Ka`b and others said, “This is the likeness of the heart of the believer.”  The reflection of a glass that is so sparkling and clean that it has a star-like effect to it when you look at it. The twinkle effect of a glass. Hmm! So the lamp itself, flameless, is almost lighting up on its own. It’s pearly white, clean, pure.

4. Yooqadu min Shajaratin Mubarakatin Zaytoonatin:

lit from (oil of) a blessed Olive tree

The lamp is lit from the oil of a blessed tree that is Olive. One of the things which facilitate brightening is the quality of oil that comes from best tree.

5. la Sharqiyyatin wala Gharbiyyatin:

neither of the east nor of the west

It means, Olive tree is not in the eastern part of the land so that it does not get any sun in the first part of the day, nor is it in the western part of the land so that it is shaded from the sun before sunset, but it is in a central position where it gets sun from the beginning of the day until the end, so its oil is good and pure and shining. This is the best kind of oil. When the sun rises it reaches the tree from the east and when it sets it reaches it from the west, so the sun reaches it morning and evening, so it is not counted as being in the east or in the west.

6. Yakadu Zaytuha Yudee-o walaw lam tamsas-hu Narun:

whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself), though no fire touched it

Ever seen gasoline light up??, Allah describes the oil as one that runs after the flame, highly flammable kind of Oil. Fire has not touched it yet and it is still about to light up. Even if you didn’t put the light in, it has a shine itself, then the light comes and it lights up immediately. It doesn’t take it anytime. It also means the oil itself is shining.

7. Noorun AAala Noorin:

Light upon Light

Light of the fire and the light of the oil: when they are combined they give light, and neither of them can give light without the other.

8-  yahdee Allahu linoorihi man yashao:

Allah guides to His Light whom He wills.

It means, Allah shows the way to the ones whom He chooses, as it says in the Hadith recorded by Imam Ahmad from `Abdullah bin `Amr, who said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:

“Allah created His creation in darkness, then on the same day He sent His Light upon them. Whoever was touched by His Light on that day will be guided and whoever was missed will be led astray. Hence I say: the pens have dried in accordance with the knowledge of Allah, may He be glorified.”

9- wayadribu Allahu alamthala lilnnasi waAllahu bikulli shayin AAaleemun:

And Allah sets forth parables for mankind, and Allah is All-Knower of everything.

Having mentioned this parable of the Light of His guidance in the heart of the believer, Allah ends this Ayah with the above words and He knows best who deserves to be guided and who deserves to be led astray. May Allah swt keep us in the people of guidance who remain under His mercy and love always ameen Ya Rabul alameen.

The explanation of example would come in the next post Insha’Allah.

It was narrated from Talhah bin ‘Ubaidullah that two men from Bali came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). They had become Muslim together, but one of them used to strive harder than the other. The one who used to strive harder went out to fight and was martyred. The other one stayed for a year longer, then he passed away. Talhah said:

“I saw in a dream that I was at the gate of Paradise and I saw them (those two men). Someone came out of Paradise and admitted the one who had died last, then he came out and admitted the one who had been martyred. Then he came back to me and said: ‘Go back, for your time has not yet come.’” The next morning, Talhah told the people of that and they were amazed. News of that reached the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and they told him the story. He said: “Why are you so amazed at that?” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, the first one was the one who strove harder, then he was martyred, but the other one was admitted to Paradise before him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Did he not stay behind for a year?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “And did not Ramadan come and he fasted, and he offered such and such prayers during that year?” They said: “Yes.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The difference between them is greater than the difference between heaven and earth.”

HOW TO PREACH DEEN – SURAH NUH

Da‘wah (also transliterated daawa(h); Arabic: دعوة‎ “invitation”) means the proselytizing or preaching of Islam. Da‘wah literally means “issuing a summons” or “making an invitation”, being a gerund of a verb meaning variously “to summon” or “to invite”. A Muslim who practices da‘wah, either as a religious worker or in a volunteer community effort, is called a dā‘ī (داعي, plural du‘āh/du‘āt ).

A dā‘ī is thus a person who invites people to understand Islam through dialogue, not unlike the Islamic equivalent of a missionary inviting people to the faith, prayer and manner of Islamic life. [1]

In Surah Nuh, we see the character of Prophet Nuh alayhi salaam as a da’ee, who faced difficulties in spreading Islam. The Surah begins with Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala telling us how Prophet Nuh [Noah]‘alayhi salaam began calling his people to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. His dawah methodology is gem for all. There are some lessons in the ayah 5- 9, that what should be the character of a da’ee and what attributes are required for this task:

Lessons for da’ee:

  • Relentlessly pursuing goals
  • Patience during this time
  • Consistency in efforts
  • Using all potential
  •  Never giving up
  •  Having firm connection with Allah
  • Using different techniques according to audience at different times
  • Having thick skin to ignore people’s rejection
  • Sincerely pray and guide them towards their own forgiveness and salvation.

Points of Action:

  • Utilize whatever resources to connect people with Allah.
  • Share the beauty of our deen with people of other faiths now when they’re willing to listen the most.
  • Not let shaytan sway us from our goal when faced with rejection.
  • Combine earnest dua at tahajjud time with dawah efforts.
  • Encourage people to repent no matter how big their sins are. Allah’s  forgiveness is huge. [2]
  • One who calls towards Allah swt does not get offended by negative reactions and comments of people. [2]

5 TIPS TO HAVE TAWWAKUL ALLAH

Here are some tips and motivators on how to train yourself to rely upon Allah alone.

1.      Never be lazy:

Tawakkul sometimes is mistaken for “sitting back” and thinking your problems will be solved just by believing Allah will take care of your affairs. But look at what emaan is. It is not just having faith, as it’s often translated. It’s the combination of faith and acting upon that faith.

The same goes for tawakkul. Don’t give up on your own efforts. Rather strive and work with the attitude that Allah will take care of your affairs and will help you get through your trials. This proactive attitude is in fact part of you having tawakkul.

Remember when the Prophet salallaahu alayhi wa sallam asked the Bedouin,

“Why don’t you tie down your camel?” The Bedouin answered, “I put my trust in Allah.” The Prophet then said, “Tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah” [At-Tirmidhi].

2.      Never be arrogant:

You should always plan and work based on what Allah has blessed you with in knowledge, intelligence, and free will. You should fully use those blessings by thanking Allah for them, without ever feeling proud or arrogant about your abilities. You work, but it is Allah who gave you the ability to work, and ultimately it’s the favor of Allah which will make you successful or not.

3.         Go for the fruit:

Accept whatever happens.  You should believe that Allah ‘azza wajal out of His wisdom may decide to supersede all your plans for reasons that only He knows. This is the fruit of tawakkul.Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali said, The fruit of tawakkul is the acceptance of Allah’s decree. Whoever leaves his affairs to Allah and then is accepting of what he is given has truly relied on Allah.

Remind yourself that believing in al-Qadr (Allah’s divine will and decree) is one of the pillars of your faith. Tell yourself that whatever will happen will happen and that you can only do the best you can.

Allah al-Qadeer will never ever let something bad happen to you, even though you might fear it. In every matter is good for a believer. If you live by this fact, what can get you down? You might bend, but you’ll never break!

4.         Precaution!

Even as Prophet Yaqub alayhi sallam took all precautionary measures when he sent his sons to Egypt and advised them to enter from different gates of the city, so they wouldn’t look suspicious. His measures were overtaken by the divine decree. But still he took all the measures he could to avoid any possible risk.

This is where most of us go wrong. We either rely on our efforts and measures and discard our trust in Allah, or we rely on “trust in Allah” and don’t adopt any practical measures to solve our problems.

5.      Rejoice— Allah is al-Wakeel:

Allah is al-Wakeel, the ultimate and the best trustee. Everything He decrees for us is good for us. He’s the best disposer of affairs. He’s sufficient for all of us.  So aren’t you “lucky” you can entrust your affairs to Him? Remind yourself that Allah is the ultimate trustee; give yourself and your affairs over to Him with a sense of full comfort and certainty in your heart.

Benefits of Tawakkul: 3 steps to Success

Let’s strive to understand and apply tawakkul in our daily lives. Because when you taste that amazing feeling of peace in your mind, strength in your limbs, and the breeze of tranquility in your heart, you’ll never want to be without it again!

Train yourself to have tawakkul and you’ll notice that things will not only get resolved more easily with His help, but tawakkul will also relieve you from your daily worries.

Finally, before making any effort, remind yourself of these 3 steps:

  1. Put your trust in Allah Al-Wakeel
  2. Use your God-granted faculties to put in your best efforts
  3. Believe in Qada wal-qadr (the divine decree)

May Allah subhanahu wa ta’alaa make our words and actions the result of tawakkul, aid us to use all His blessings the best way we can while depending on Him, and strengthen us with unshakable belief in His Decree by accepting whatever He chooses to be the outcome, ameen!

I pray you will benefit.

CHAPTER 2: EVIDENCE ON SECOND MATTER

E-Chp2-2

For the 2nd matter that Allah is not pleased that anyone should be made a sharer in worship along with Him, neither any angel brought near, nor any Prophet sent as a messenger and evidence is given in Ayah 18 of Surah Al-Jin.

The Command to worship Allah Alone and shun Shirk:

Allah commands His servants to single Him out alone for worship and that none should be supplicated to along with Him, nor should any partners be associated with Him. As Qatadah said concerning Allah’s statement,

“Whenever the Jews and Christians used to enter their churches and synagogues, they would associate partners with Allah. Thus, Allah commanded His Prophet to tell them that they should single Him out alone for worship.”

The commentators generally have taken “masajid” to mean the places of worship. Accordingly, the ayah means: “None should he associated in the worship of Allah in the places of worship. Hadrat Hasan Basri says: The entire earth is a place of worship, and the ayah means to say: polytheism ought not to be committed anywhere on Allah’s earth,” He has reasoned out this meaning from the Holy Prophet’s Hadith

“For me the entire earth has been made a place of worship and a means of obtaining purity”

Hadrat Sa`id bin Jubair has interpreted masajid to imply the parts of the body on which one prostrates oneself, i.e. the hands, the knees, toes and forehead. According to this explanation, the verse means: These limbs have been made by Allah; no one should prostrate oneself on these before anyone other than Allah.

In other words, if a person asks other than Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for something that only Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is able to fulfill and believes that the one who he is asking from is the one who is the ultimate authority and is completely free in performing what he is asked to do, then this person would be considered as a polytheist.

Therefore, the word in this ayah ‘مع’ or the sentence  فلا تدعوا مع الله’ is in the meaning that, ‘we bear witness that we must not place anyone or anything along side with Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) that we consider to be the initial (and independent) source of having an affect on our lives.’

CHAPTER 2: SECOND MATTER – NEGATION OF SHIRK (PART 1)

Chp2-2(1)

This matter is connected with the first matter that is explained earlier about obligation of worshipping of Allah and following the path of Prophet ﷺ. So whoever worships Allah subhana watalah, and also associate anyone else along with Him, then his worship will be futile or null. Because worship can only benefit when it is done with ikhlas and tawheed. As Allah, the Most High said:

And it was already revealed to you and to those before you that if you should associate [anything] with Allah , your work would surely become worthless, and you would surely be among the losers.”

 (Surah Zumur: 65 )

If shirk is mixed with the worship, then it will corrupts the whole ibadah. Just like the salah (prayer) is not salah without purification. In many ayaat of Quran, Allah subhana watalah commanded to worship Him alone and not associate anyone along with Him.

There is no deity except Me, so worship Me – میرے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں تو میری ہی عبادت کرو

(Surah Al-Anbiya:25)

So whoever worship Allah and obey the messenger, then he may not associate anything in worship with Him, because this is the most evil thing, which displease Him. Those who perform salah, and witness the Prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ, but on other hand, if they supplicate at tombs and call for relief from the dead, then they should know that their worship is nullified and void. They have to abandon the worship of everything else besides Him. It is a serious matter to draw attention towards it, as the act of shirk displease Allah subhana watalah, which is destroying all the good deeds of one.

None should say: ” i take the beloved servants of Allah, the righteous people as intercessors. I do not worship idols and images, as they used to do in the time of ignorance”.  Remember that the Arab Pagans, despite their ignorance and arrogance, completely understood the meaning of Ibaadah (worship). They believed that intercession is a form of worship, and did not deny that calling upon pious people amounted to worshiping them. They would call their idols, ‘Aaliha (plural of Ilah meaning, One, who is worshiped). This is in sharp contrast of the belief of the grave-worshipers of today, who make the engraved as intercessors with Allah, and yet do not consider it to be Shirk!!

Here are three main parts of this 2nd chapter:

1-  Belief that Allah created us and gave us provision and did not leave us without purpose,

            –  Obedience to the Messenger sallAllaahu `alaihi wa sallam

2-  Allah is not pleased that anyone else should be associated in worship with Him

3- Disassociation from the people who are enemies of Allah and His Messenger sallAllaahu `alaihi wa sallam

In next sections, we will study each part in further detail insha’Allah.
